Wet Beach Towels & Five Loaves
Friday, March 13th was the last time I landed in your inbox.
Honestly, are we even surprised? One of the great kindnesses I showed myself was refusing to pretend this Loaves Letter situation would operate on a polished, predictable schedule. We’re out here multiplying loaves and fishes, not guaranteeing a two-hour Instacart delivery window.
How are you, friend?
Maybe it’s a writing flaw, but I always write assuming we’re living parallel lives. If that’s true, I’m guessing you’re somewhere between “we’ve almost made it through another school year” and “sweet mercy, how am I supposed to maintain this pace all summer?”
Summer always sounds relaxing in theory. Then suddenly you’re coordinating camps, groceries, vacations, sports, sunscreen, dinner, and wondering where all the food you bought yesterday went and why you can’t cross the kitchen without stepping on a wet beach towel.
I’m feeling that tension hard right now.
I set some big goals this year, and some days they feel inspiring. Other days they feel like they’re standing across the room with crossed arms asking if I’m really going to follow through.
Honestly, I’m proud of the pace I’ve kept this year while also being completely intimidated to keep going. Grateful for how much God has taught me and wildly aware of how much growing is still needed.
So I’m not popping into your inbox today with a 5-step plan and a cute printable. Just a reminder: He sees you. He sees the season you’re in, the pace you’re trying to hold, the things weighing on you that nobody else notices. And He doesn’t just want your “quiet time” version of you. He wants in on all of it.
More moments in the Spirit. Less spiraling in the flesh.
Less striving. More trusting.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” — Isaiah 40:29
Messy Days, Mighty God Update
Things are moving!
The devotional is officially in final proofreading before it heads to layout, which feels both exciting and slightly terrifying. I’ve started gathering endorsements, and now I need to give some real attention to marketing — which I have very mixed emotions about because apparently writing feels easier to me than talking about writing.
I also hired my first employee.
She’s deeply familiar with the Messy Days, Mighty God brand, highly experienced in chaos, and has strong opinions about songs, accessories, and camera angles.
Yep. Soph. 😂
She is officially hired as my “Creative Junior Assistant,” which mostly means we now have a growing list of reel ideas and approximately zero professionalism.
So if you aren’t following along on social yet, the entertainment value is definitely increasing.
Naturally, her compensation package includes stick-on nails, Needohs, and the occasional Starbucks cake pop. As all serious business arrangements should.
Anyway… thanks for reading. Truly.
There are still so many moments where I feel wildly underqualified for what God has called me to do. But He has a track record of showing up in the middle of ordinary people offering extraordinary things.
Five loaves. Two fish.
Not enough… until it was.
As you wrap up spring and head into summer, don’t forget: you matter. You are loved. And God can do a whole lot with what feels insufficient in your hands.
With Love & Fizz,
Devan
